In the 2011 NFL season opener the defending Super Bowl Champs Green Bay Packers defeated the New Orleans Saints 42-34 in a entertaining affair.
The Packers who never trailed in this game led by as many as 15 points and held on for an 8 point victory. The Packers defense stuffed the Saints’ Mark Ingram on the 1-yard line to end the game.
The game featured two elite QB’s who did not disappoint. Aaron Rodgers was 27/35 throwing for 312 yards and 3 touchdowns. Greg Jennings caught 7 balls for 99 yards and a touchdown. Jordan Nelson hauled in 6 catches for 77 yards and a touchdown for the Pack. Packers rookie WR Randall Cobb caught a TD pass and returned a kickoff 108 yards for a TD.
Drew Brees had a terrific game for the Saints in a losing effort. Brees was 32/49 and passed for 419 yards and 3 touchdowns. Devery Henderson was the Saints leading receiver with 6 catches for 100 yards and a touchdown. Robert Meachem had 5 catches for 70 yards and a score. Newly acquired Darren Sproles returned a punt for a TD as well.
