Floyd “Money” Mayweather knocked out Victor Ortiz with a very controversial combo in the 4th round to become the new WBC Welterweight champion.

In a very bizarre 4th round, Ortiz intentionally head-butted Mayweather, causing the ref to deduct a point from Ortiz. After the head-butt Ortiz hugged and kissed Mayweather out of respect. Just as the ref was centering the fighters, Mayweather landed a vicious combo to knock out an off guard Ortiz.

After the fight Mayweather was asked about the controversial knockout and responded with, ” in the ring you have to protect yourself at all times.”. Floyd also let off a verbal barrage of insult towards Larry Merchant who had asked him about the circumstances surrounding the knockout.
