Wild Wildcard Races

Going into the last series of the season both the AL and NL Wild Card races are separated by a game only. The Boston Red Sox and Atlanta Braves are trying to avoid monumental collapses after leading the Wild Card by more than 8 games heading into September.

The Red Sox cling to a 1-game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays after MVP candidate Jacoby Ellsbury hit a game winning home run in the top of the 14th inning to help Boston salvage one game in their series with the New York Yankees. The Red Sox will look to avoid a 9-game collapse as they end the season in Baltimore, while the Rays finish with the Yankees.

The Braves fell to the Washington Nationals 3-0 sunday, while the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Chicago Cubs 3-2 to move within a game of the Braves. The Braves will look to avoid a 8.5 game collapse as they take on the Philadelphia Philles in the last series of the regular season. The Cardinals finish the season with the Houston Astros.
