Both the AL and NL Wild Card races are tied going into the final game of the season.
The Boston Red Sox got two home runs from rookie catcher Ryan Lavarnway and hung on for a 8-7 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. Matt Joyce of the Tampa Bay Ray hit a 3-run homer in the bottom of the 7th to give Tampa a 5-3 lead. The Rays wouldn’t relinquish the lead and defeated the New York Yankees by the same score. If both the Red Sox and Rays win or lose Wednesday then there will be a one game playoff in St. Petersburg on Thursday.
Over in the National League the Atlanta Braves were manhandled by the Philadelphia Phillies 7-1 while the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Houston Astros 13-6 to tie things up. If both the Braves and Cardinals win or lose Wednesday then there will be a one game playoff in St. Louis on Thursday.
