In another field goal plagued game the Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the LSU Tigers 21-0 to win the BCS National Championship. This is Alabama’s second National Championship in three years.
Alabama’s defense controlled the entire game. They didn’t allow LSU any sustained drives all night, giving up only 92 yards of total offense. After five field goals from Alabama kicker Jeremy Shelley, Trent Richardson broke free for a 34-yard touchdown scamper to give the tide a 21-0 lead. Richardson’s touchdown late in the fourth quarter was the first touchdown scored between these teams in two games played against one another this season. Richardson finished with 96 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Bama quarterback AJ McCarron took home offensive MVP honors with 234 passing yards. Courtney Upshaw was named the defensive MVP with 7 tackles and a sack.
