Mavericks 86 Heat 83
Series tied 2-2
Dirk Nowitzki now has his version of the Jordan “Flu Game”. Hampered by a 102 degree temperature, Nowitzki powered his team to a game 4 victory over the Miami Heat to tie the series at 2.
Miami was up 74-65 with 10 minutes to go, and things were looking bleak for Dallas. Then the Jet left the runway as Jason Terry took off and made two straight baskets to get Dallas right back into the game. Nowitzki and Terry would carry the load for Dallas down the stretch, scoring 10 points and 8 points respectively in the fourth quarter.
Dwyane Wade went to the line with 30 seconds remaining and Dallas leading 82-80. Wade would miss the second of the two foul shots, and Dirk Nowitzki would make a driving layup to put Dallas up 84-81. After a quick Wade dunk, Jason Terry went to the line and calmly made both free throws. Miami had one last chance down 86-83 and 6 seconds remaining. Wade would proceed to drop the inbounds pass by mid-court, and then save the ball from going backcourt by tossing it to Mike Miller, who heaved up a deep three for an air-ball as time expired.
Although Dirk Nowitzki didn’t have his best game scoring only 21 points, it is his gritty performance with a 102 degree temperature that will live in NBA infamy. Jason Terry finally came through late and finished with 17 points. Tyson Chandler didn’t have the best offensive game but his 16 rebounds(10 offensive) were crucial to Dallas’ victory.
Dwyane Wade once again controlled the Heat attack with 32 points and 6 rebounds. Chris Bosh had a good game with 24 points. LeBron James had another disappointing NBA Finals performance scoring only 8 points on 3-11 shooting from the field.
The pivotal game five will be played in Dallas thursday night, with the winner taking a 3-2 series lead back to Miami.
