Verlander Wins AL MVP

A week after winning the American League Cy Young Award Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander was named the American League MVP. Verlander is the first pitcher to win the award since Dennis Eckersley in 1992. Verlander received 13 of the 28 first place votes and 280 points total. 2011 AL and NL Managers of the Year

Tampa Bay Rays Manager Joe Maddon was Named the 2011 American League Manager of the Year.  Maddon’s Ray finished with a 91-71 record and came back from a 9-game game September deficit to win the AL Wild Card.  This is Maddon’s 2nd time winning the award as he won it back in the 2008 season. 2011 MLB Rookies of the Year

  Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson was named the 2011 American League Rookie of the Year.  Hellickson had a record of 13-10 with a 2.95 ERA. Atlanta Braves closer Craig Kimbrel was named the 2011 National League Rookie of the Year.  Kimbrel finished in a tie with John Axford for the NL saves title with 46 saves.  Kimbrel was also a NL All-Star.
